At the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, we believe that art is for everyone. We work to connect people with disability and access requirements of all ages with contemporary art; including students, teachers, children, young people, families, adults and their support networks. The MCA provides opportunities for everyone to see, experience, understand and create art through creative learning and access programs.
Our creative learning and access programs take place in the galleries and the National Centre for Creative Learning(NCCL)and are delivered by our team of Artist Educators, practicing artists who bring a wealth of creative skills and ideas to everything they do.
Central to the MCA’s commitment to access is Bella. Since beginning in 1993, Bella at the MCA has developed to include an annually commissioned artwork, The Jackson Bella Room, and a suite of programs and events that respond to the diversity of people accessing our Creative Learning programs. Bella welcomes all people with disability or access requirements.
Our ethos is that art is for everyone and all Bella and accessible programs are tailored by MCA Artist Educators so that —every program delivered is responsive to the access needs of the people participating.
A recent initiative – Bella Extension – offers an additional Bella Artist Educator to provide tailored support to people with disability or access requirements who wish to attend any event at the MCA with their friends, family or school group.
The MCA Bella Program was established in 1993 through the generosity of MCA patrons, Dr Edward Jackson AM and Mrs Cynthia Jackson AM, and the Jackson family, in memory of their late daughter and sister Belinda.
These places that are available now, whereas 30 years ago it wasn’t around, for disabilities and that, it’s really good to have activities like this to go to.
